Memory Garden by Julia Chon
Plain Sight presents, Memory Garden, featuring work by Julia Chon. The collection features 54 hand-painted onggi—traditional Korean earthenware vessels—reflecting Julia Chon’s family’s 54 years in the U.S. since immigrating in 1970. Each vessel holds forgotten stories, personal histories, and emotions tied to the immigrant journey.

Join Plain Sight, the Embassy of Portugal, and the Embassy of Poland for a virtual conversation with exhibiting artists Michael Thron and Michal Gavish. Moderated by Plain Sight Co-founders and curators, Allison Nance and Teddy Rodger, the discussion will cover topics around the topic of creating works in response to literature, the importance of transatlantic collaboration, and the inspiration and processes behind the artworks on exhibit.

Sightings: Old Clothes Make Art with Ada Pinkston
In this Sightings workshop, artist Ada Pinkston invites participants to bring old clothes and fabrics and learn how to sew, alter, and embellish these textiles to create works of art. No prior art-making experience required.

Sightings: In Touch / Art + Writing Workshop with Michelle Chen
This Sightings workshop invites you to pause and reflect on things unspoken, whether messages to loved ones, lost connections, strangers, or from that quiet inner voice to a past or future you. A selection of minimally illustrated cards will be available for participants to choose from to color, embellish, and write in. Prompts, art materials, and a limited supply of envelopes and stamps will be provided.

Sightings: Natural Spaces Virtual Site Walk
In this virtual Sighting, viewers are invited on a site walk and discussion of grounding practices in environments both new and familiar. Participants are encouraged to take a moment to visit natural spaces accessible to them, explore at their own pace, and ground themselves in whatever way is most useful: movement, meditation, drawing.

Sightings: Collage Making / Picture Party With Lionel Frazier White III
This Picture Party will focus on the significance of black sound. By looking at marching bands and black peoples’ access to public space, this will be a time to reminisce and reflect on pictures and what they mean. We cut, rearrange, and reconstruct these memories to show the significance of an overlooked moment. Bring your own photos or use those provided. No art experience is necessary.

SIGHTINGS: Shadow Drawing with Emily Fussner
This workshop is an opportunity to slow down, discover design in unexpected places, and learn to make drawings that are both observational and abstract! We will explore our surroundings and find natural or urban shadows to trace. By layering these tracings and experimenting with different colors and drawing tools, we will make unique compositions on paper. Participants are also welcome to bring small objects that would cast interesting shadows to trace. No art experience is required.

Don't Cry Over Spilt Milk
Lee Nowell-Wilson’s Don’t Cry Over Spilt Milk is an autobiographical inquiry into the ambivalent undertones felt within birth, domestic labor, and human relationship. Don’t Cry Over Spilt Milk presents two new, large-scale drawings from Lee Nowell-Wilson, along with a floor installation that features the third issue of MILKED, an independent arts publication created by Nowell-Wilson along with Darin Michelle Gilliam.

Join Plain Sight Co-Founders, Allison Nance and Teddy Roger, in conversation with artist Nara Park and Ji Young Yun of the Korean Cultural Center.

I Live
Plain Sight presents its second exhibition, I Live, featuring work by Nara Park, whose work investigates our relationship to the landscape we inhabit and the imprint we leave in it when we are gone. Park uses synthetic materials, such as Styrofoam or plastic, to create three-dimensional works that reference stone, inspired by sacred places ranging from memorials to natural rock formations. I Live is accompanied by an audio recording of the artist reading her poem Promises. Works will be on display 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the duration of the exhibition. This exhibition is presented in partnership with the Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. Plain Sight co-founders, Allison Nance and Teddy Rodger, will be joined by Ji Young Yun from the Korean Cultural Center for an artist talk with Park on April 28th.

The Revolution Will Be Digitized
Plain Sight presents its inaugural exhibition The Revolution Will Be Digitized by visual artist and poet Halim A. Flowers. Part visual art piece and part audio performance, Flowers delves into the illumination and obscurity of a revolution in the age of modern-day social media. Works will be on display 24 hours a day, seven days a week through Sunday, March 7, 2021.
